Our Commitment
At Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, we are deeply committed to preserving the Serengeti and uplifting our local community, including through our environmental conservation efforts, promoting responsible tourism through trade with local suppliers, and providing training and education to local youth. - Linens and towels replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested
- Water-efficient landscaping utilizing recycled water
- Annual tree planting activities
- Only lodge in the Serengeti that utilizes a full-scale sewage treatment plant, allowing sewage to be recycled into greywater for various uses around our Lodge
- Solar energy harnessed on site, enabling the lodge to fully operate on clean energy during periods of low demand and at up to 80% at maximum occupancy
- Elimination of single-use plastics, including bathroom amenities and water bottles, thanks to the adoption of refillable stainless steel bottles for guests
- Recycling program in place
- Local, sustainable and seasonal menu items available
- Food waste reduction program in place
- A portion of food waste is diverted from the landfill and donated to local farmers for use as animal feed
- Our on-site Discovery Centre helps guests learn about the wildlife, history and people of the Serengeti, including regular talks and presentations by our Lodge Naturalist, Photographer-in-Residence and local wildlife experts
- Donations are made to community and wildlife projects in and around the Serengeti from our Discovery Centre Fund for every Four Seasons game drive, walking safari and sale of select retail boutique items
- We proudly support local wildlife conservation efforts, including the Serengeti Rhino Conservation Project and the Serengeti De-Snaring Project
- We celebrate all major world environment days to raise awareness among guests and employees
- We partner with local colleges to provide scholarships to develop and empower the future leaders of Tanzanian tourism, including the National College of Tourism (NCT), College of African Wildlife Management – Mweka (CAWM), National Vocational Training Centres (VETA) and Serengeti Tourism College (SETCO)
- Donations, financial aid and ongoing support are provided to Hope for Girls and Women (Matumaini kwa Wasichana na Wanawake), a local nonprofit providing support to those fleeing female genital mutilation, child marriage and other forms of gender-based violence in Tanzania
- Linen, furniture and equipment donated to those in need at Hope for Girls and Women and various educational institutions, including Robanda Secondary School and SETCO
- Local artists and artisans featured throughout the Lodge, including works from local painters and the Maasai community, and products from Sanaa, a socially conscious for-profit enterprise that employs local people with disabilities to create unique artisanal pieces from recycled glass and other recycled materials
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training

- Newly launched year-long youth hospitality apprenticeship program is a launchpad for future careers for young individuals from the communities around the Serengeti National Park
- Nearly 75% of the items in our Lodge are sourced locally in Tanzania
- 90% of items offered in the Boutique are from Africa, including 60% from Tanzania
- Eco-certified cleaning products used
- Spa products are primarily from the South African-based skin and body care brand, TheraNaka™, offering certified fair trade, cruelty-free, eco-conscious and clean cosmetics
