At Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, we are committed to preserving and regenerating the environment and leaving a positive, enduring impact on our local community. - The Resort is the Leeward Coast’s first “Blue Zones Project Approved worksite,” recognizing efforts to create a work atmosphere that inspires, encourages and promotes well-being, not only in the workplace but also in the communities in which employees live. These include a weekly Farmer’s Market with nearby Kahumana Farms, employee yoga classes, healthy food options in the employee restaurant, a new mother’s area where moms can express and store breast milk, easy access to walking, biking and other fitness programs, and locations with self-monitoring health equipment including scales and blood pressure monitoring systems.
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available for guest use
- Linens and towels replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested
- Energy-saving HVAC guest room controls and building systems and equipment
- Installed lanai sliding door sensors to shut off air conditioning when sliding doors are open
- Water-efficient landscaping with timers and drought resistant plants
- Property-wide LED lighting
- Central plant energy optimization in place
- Water-efficient faucets and showerheads in guestrooms, and high-water-efficiency laundry machines used for guest laundry
- Replaced laundry washers with water-efficiency models
- Reduced pump speed or eliminate pumps on water features
- Recycling program in place for aluminum cans, bottles, glass, office paper, corrugated cardboard, newspapers, wood (including pallets) and scrap metal
- Elimination of single-use plastics, including water bottles, glass cups, straws and bathroom amenities
- Organic waste diversion program in place for food waste and landscaping waste
- The Resort practices ‘grasscycling’ whereby grass clippings are left on the grass to break down after mowing, resulting in less landscaping waste
- Used cooking oil collected by a local partner and converted into biodiesel off-site
- Work with vendors to minimize product packaging, require corrugated cardboard boxes, use recyclable or reusable packaging and take-back packaging
- Use of cloth napkins, refillable containers, reusable coasters and reusable flatware in restaurants
- Use recyclable laser and copier toner cartridges and fluorescent bulbs and batteries
- Upcycle discarded linen into cleaning rags and drop cloths
- Local, sustainable and seasonal menu items available
- Cage-free eggs
- Food waste reduction program in place
- Food waste diverted from landfill and donated to local farmers for use as pig feed
- Local biodiversity support program in place, including employee-led tree planting with Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods
- Integrated pest management implemented in landscaping practices, prioritizing biological controls over the use of chemicals
- No chemicals used near koi ponds and the ocean
- Exterior of hotel and interior guest rooms and corridors painted with environmentally friendly paint
- Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community, including embarking on a spiritual journey to Ka’ena Point, immersing themselves in on-site, artisan-guided workshops, hiking to several spots throughout the island or visiting landmarks such as Pearl Harbor, Bishop Museum, ‘Iolani Palace and the Honolulu Museum of Art.
- Local artists and artisans featured throughout the Resort as part of the #FSWayfinders program, including Lauhala weavers, resin painters, hula performers and live musicians
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training
- Employees volunteer in the local community through community outreach, Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association (HLTA) Visitor Industry Charity Walk and Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii
- Partner with Ko Olina Resorts and Hawaii Food Bank to deliver over 1,000 dinners to families in need during Thanksgiving
- Treatment choreographies at Naupaka Spa draw inspiration from a rich healing history at Ko Olina that dates back centuries. Four Seasons celebrates Global Wellness Day which includes free morning yoga and other various wellness workshops.
- Our Malama (“to care for”) program rewards guests who participate in selected volunteer programs during their stay with a USD 250 Resort credit.
- Eco-certified cleaning products used
- On-property boutique featuring local products
- Purchase Hawaiian Earth Products compost for landscaping
- Purchase corporate and guest stationary with recycled content
- Prioritize recycled content construction materials in building/remodeling where feasible
