At Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, we are committed to preserving and regenerating the environment and leaving a positive, enduring impact on our local community. - Eco-friendly electric buggies used for staff and guest transportation
- Bicycles available for guest use
- Linens and towels replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested
- Installation of one of Maldives’ largest resort-based solar installations: RoofSolar inverter – comprising 3,105 panels and spanning 5,380 square-metres (57,910 square-feet) – saving 250,000–300,000 litres of diesel and 650-800 tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to powering all 103 of Landaa’s guest rooms, villas and suites for 32 days
- Energy-saving guest room controls and building systems, including LED lighting and water heat pumps in all guest rooms, improving energy efficiency by 70%
- Elimination of single-use plastics from guest rooms, including water bottles and bathroom amenities
- Sustainable kitchen products include biodegradable garbage bags, aluminum layered boxes (in place of XPS foam), paper cups and lids, and non-plastic bottles
- Drinking water bottling program that eliminates 292,000 plastic bottles annually
- Collaboration with Parley since 2016 to recycle leftover plastic into sportswear
- Recycling partnership with local recycling company, Secure Bag Pvt Ltd, to recycle used engine oils, kitchen oils, batteries, glass, aluminum and metal
- On-site organic waste diversion program
- Local, sustainable and seasonal menu items available
- 90% of fish and seafood are sourced from sustainable and local Maldivian sources
- On-site mushroom house yields white, grey and pink oyster and abalone mushrooms daily for use in dining outlets
- Seasonal and sustainable fish menu avoids fish in breeding season
- Island-produced cage-free Landaa eggs (chicken, duck and quail) as part of menu offerings
- Landaa Garden herbs, including basil, mint, lemongrass, butterfly pea flower, cofi leaves, chilli and breadfruit, are picked for use in our kitchens and bars
- Landaa Spa Garden herbs, including castor plant, noni, three-leaved chaste tree, Indian beach tree, garlic pear tree and drum stick tree, are used for treatments
- Food waste reduction program in place, including Lumitics e-bin technology implemented in kitchens to help track, measure, control and reduce food waste
- Four interactive ocean conservation initiatives led by 15 marine biologists based on the island operate out of our Marine Discovery Centre: Coral Reefscaping, Turtle Rehabilitation, Manta Ray Research and Fish Breeding
- Pioneering Reefscapers partnership utilizing innovative AI technology has seen more than 250,000 fragments of coral transplanted onto 5,000 coral frames in the waters around Landaa to boost existing reefs and create new ones; guests can help plant corals in support of reef restoration efforts and watch them grow via photo updates on our Marine Savers website
- Government-licensed Turtle Rehabilitation Centre has rescued more than 300 turtles in a decade, returning most to the wild and rehoming those deemed non-releasable to forever homes in overseas aquariums via the Flying Turtles project
- Our Maldivian Manta Ray Project (MMRP) – the founding project of The Manta Trust – has identified the world’s largest known manta ray population, contributing valuable data to the worldwide preservation of the species
- Trainee Marine Biologist Program motivating teenagers and young adults to dive deep into what it takes to be a marine biologist and engage with the natural world through theory-based and practical modules
- Guests can engage in coral reef scaping, turtle monitoring, turtle photo ID and dolphin ID projects
- 35,000 trees planted to date via the Four Seasons Maldives Tree Plantation Project together with TIST India and Rehoboth Sustainability
- Local outreach program for neighbouring schools in collaboration with our Marine Discovery Centre to expand awareness of marine conservation efforts and activities
- More than 750 young Maldivians have graduated from the government-accredited Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship Program, equipped with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in the hospitality industry
- Local community-based boduberu (big drum) troupes supported and featured at our Resort
- Our Resort is the largest single customer of lacquerware artists from Thulaadhoo – the Maldives’ last remaining lacquerware artisans – via on-site showcases and resort shop sales
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training
- Employees volunteer in the local community and run beach cleanups at neighbouring and remote islands
- Eco-certified cleaning products used
- Including vendors and third-party suppliers in our Environment and Social Sustainability Policy and actively engaging them to prioritize eco-friendly packaging solutions and locally sourced, fair-trade and environmentally friendly products
