Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy 2025
On September 3, Taj Burrow became the first ever three-time winner of the Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy. He beat Mikey February in the grand final to cap off three days of competition in some of the best waves the event has ever seen.
Running for its 12 year from August 29 to September 5, this year’s SCT showcased legendary surfing talent, including South Africa’s Mikey “Freestyle” February; Frenchman Jeremy Flores; Brazilian heavy wave expert Jadson Andre; USA’s five-time world champion and first female gold-winning Olympian surfer Carissa Moore; Australia’s power-style expert Owen Wright; and Maldivian wildcard Ahmed “Ammaday” Agil.
In the finale, two surfers commenced in a tube duel. February caught seven waves to Burrow’s four, and both surfers had three excellent scores at the end. With a 9.10 and a 9.03, it was Burrow who led throughout. An 8.67 and a 9.10 ensued February was never far from first and, with a few minutes remaining, a storm loomed on the horizon. The wind then turned stiff offshore, and even after a week of big barrels, suddenly they’d never seen wider waves.
Burrow’s final pit for the week was a gem, but an 8.00 was no help. He kicked out in the channel, leaving February alone in the lineup chasing a 9.04. As the buzzer sounded, February snuck into one last long wall. Burrow’s resulting 8.17 fell short. Celebrations began on the back of the Princess as Burrow’s 18.13 scoreline narrowly shaded February’s 17.77 two-wave total.
Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy will return for its 13th year in 2025. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
