Lisbon Honeymoon Activities
In the fairytale enclave of Sintra, less than an hour outside Lisbon, you'll find Portugal's first castles, magnificent palaces, beautiful parkland and aristocratic retreats. The town was a summer residence of the royal family and a favourite destination for wealthy European nobles. The coastal town of Cascais puts you in the midst of mansions, yachts, a restored fort and sheltered, sandy beaches. Watch fishermen bringing in their catch and enjoy a fresh cataplana lunch.
Tour the city of seven hills with a professional photographer who will share tips for capturing the city's best light – and will also document the romance of your day with candid shots of you are your love.
For a laid-back day in the country, head southeast to the Alentejo region. Sunsoaked and slower-paced, its gently rolling plains are home to vineyards, olive groves and forests of cork oaks. The mid-May to early July cork harvest here produces about half the world's supply. September's grape harvest brings boisterous grape stomping, followed by olive picking in late fall. Explore spectacular fortified hill towns like Monsaraz or Estremoz, and Vila Viçosa, full of houses constructed from local white marble. The must-see Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds unusual sights and shopping in its picturesque winding streets.
Enjoy a romantic evening sailing along the historic north shore of Lisbon's Tagus River. Sit back and enjoy the historic shoreline's historic sites: Praça do Comércio was the original maritime entry to Lisbon, and Belém is the point from which explorer Vasco da Gama departed for India in 1497.
After a day of exploring, return to your home away from home: the Royal Suite, a peaceful retreat decorated in the elegant classical style, with soft taupe and mauve tones, and furnished with restored pieces from the Foundation Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva.
Enjoy a little playtime together – maybe even a little friendly competition – taking a day for a round of golf, surfing the Guincho Coast's best breaks, and watching the wind fill your sails while the sunshine bounces off the water's surface.
