Higashiyama Heritage Walk
Overview
The Higashiyama district in Kyoto, nestled in the city's eastern part, is a picturesque blend of history and cultural charm. Known for its well-preserved temples, shrines and traditional machiya houses, Higashiyama traces its roots back to the Heian period (794 – 1185), when it served as a retreat for nobles and aristocrats. This area continues to enchant visitors with its narrow lanes, historic tea houses and iconic landmarks like Kiyomizu-dera and the Gion district.
