On-Site Activities
- Traditional Balinese Dance
Balinese dance is a mesmerizing display of intricate movements from eyes to the tips of the fingers. Watch a performance by students of a local special needs school, who follow their teacher's sign language choreography to match movements to the music – sponsored by Four Seasons Resort Jimbaran Bay. Or join in for an interactive lesson!
- Cooking is its own Language
Team up with Chef Surya for a class in Balinese cuisine that gives back to the community. Jala Cooking Academy has partnered with Su-re.co, a UN-recognized grassroots organization that helps local farmers adapt to climate change and implement clean energy practices. Surya ends every class with a climate-smart coffee demonstration and tasting, with all coffee proceeds going back to the farmers’ cooperative.

- School for Special Needs
Visit the School for Special Needs to tour the facility and classrooms, which serve junior and senior high students with disabilities like deafness, blindness, muteness, autism and mental disability. Join the students for a workshop in dance, Balinese gamelan music, painting, wood carving or pottery.
- Zero Waste to Ocean
The Zero Waste to Ocean community education centre is run by the non-profit ROLE Foundation, which responds to the environmental challenges facing coastal communities. The centre offers team-building activities from composting and recycling to snail farming and tree planting. All proceeds go to educating local children in waste management, beach clean-ups and waste separation projects and providing vocational training for marginalized women.
- Sampah Jujur – John Hardy Trash Walk
Join the grassroots movement started by Chiara Hardy and her father and eco-entrepreneur John (founder of John Hardy Jewelry and the Green School). They buy back trash from the local community and schools to avoid it being burned or dumped illegally. Their mission is to educate the community on how waste should be managed to protect the environment and how trash can be recycled and even used to earn income.
- Green Village
Step into Green Village, recognized as one of Bali’s most remarkable communities in sustainable living and housing. Each house has been hand-built and constructed almost entirely from bamboo, custom-designed by the IBUKU architectural team. Tour the nearby Green School, where education is designed around the principles of an organic permaculture system.
