At Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, we are committed to preserving and regenerating the environment and leaving a positive, enduring impact on our local community. - Over 50,000 indigenous koa trees planted through our partnership with Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations available for guest use
- Salt technology used in resort pools – a friendlier alternative for the environment and guest health
- Linens and towels replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested
- Energy-efficient guest room controls and building systems
- Water conservation measures in place
- Water-efficient landscaping and golf course management
- Carbon-neutral villas – through our partnership with the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative, carbon emissions from every stay are offset by the planting of trees
- Recycling program in place
- Soaps and toiletries recycled and donated to those in need through our partner Clean the World
- Elimination of single-use plastics, including water bottles and bathroom amenities
- First-of-its-kind in the state, small batch on-site Boomerang Water bottling plant utilizing reusable aluminum bottles and nanotechnology to reduce waste and remove any impurities and toxins from the water
- Over 75% of our food and beverage ingredients are sourced from local farmers, fisheries and purveyors
- Cage-free eggs
- Food waste reduction program in place
- Food waste diverted from landfill and donated to local farmers for use as pig feed
- On-site herb garden and oyster pond supplies fresh ingredients to resort restaurants
- Waters off our coast have been declared a Marine Reserve to promote resilience in our reef
- Our Natural Resources team works with the Hawai’i Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to monitor and manage our marine environment, water quality in the ocean and the delicate ecosystems of the anchialine ponds on the Resort
- Ocean conservation education offered through our Alaka'i Nalu and Kumu Kai Marine Education Center
- Guests have the option to donate to a local non-profit, Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods, for each night spent at Hualalai
- The Resort hosts periodic beach clean ups that are open to guests and employees
- Ocean conservation education offered to local schools on the island
- Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community
- Kapuna (Hawaiian elders) teach the whole family about local traditions
- Local artists and artisans featured throughout the Resort
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training
- Employees volunteer in the local community through fundraising and participation in Hawaii Island charitable events, community events for island clean-ups, children’s charities and food drives.
- Makana Honua bath products use ingredients sourced locally from Hawaii Island
- Focus on partnering with sustainable suppliers for resort purchasing and products
- Suppliers are encouraged to reduce unnecessary packaging
